Electromagnets are used to
hold items without the use of tools. They make it easy
to move the items, since you need only cut the power to
switch off the magnetic force. They also make it easy to
move hard-to-handle items with difficult handholds, such
as flat metal plates.
Most electromagnets can lift
quite heavy burdens, but please note that the force in
Newton the magnet is rated for, is the maximum the
magnet can lift safely.
Please note that the force
is by full contact between the magnet and the material,
without air gap. If the air gap is increased, the force
is reduced.
